So, here’s to trying something new.
Consider this me dipping my toes into the waters of Substack; I’m writing my first book at present, and have the honour of being represented by the wonderful Katie Blagden at The Bright Agency. As such, I’m trying a few things to try to get me writing regularly, and to encourage my brain to stretch those creative synapses - Substack seemed like as good a place as any to start!
If you haven’t come across me before - hello, welcome to the chaos! I’m Hannah, a doctor who regularly enjoys a side-quest, whether that be writing, speaking, politic-ing, consulting, or generally causing mayhem on my allotments. If you hadn’t guessed from all that, yes, I have ADHD, and I’m also a wheelchair user. I spend a lot of my time contemplating, and then inevitably yelling about, all things disability and LGBTQ. I live with my partner (the very private Reviewer2), two tortoises (Stanhope and Livingstone), and two cats - Simbastatin and Erythromeowcin.
When I’m not getting covered in mud and growing wonky veg, I’m generally found absorbed in a book or seeing patients as a nearly-fully-qualified GP (I’ve been a doctor for 7 years now). I also work with a wide range of charities and other organisations (but it should go without saying that all the views you’ll see here are entirely mine).
Maybe one day this will become a subscription-payment-type affair, but in the meantime I’m happy to just put thoughts and musings out into the universe every so often in the hope I can spur myself into regular writing, and explore some of the many things that I would like to see society hurry up and change (example 1: the Government).
You can expect musings on a whole range of topics around LGBTQ, Disability, Health and Politics. Some weeks, I may just tell you what I’ve been up to (because my life is somewhat ludicrous). Whatever you get, it’ll likely involve some tongue in cheek humour, a large dose of sarcasm, and inevitable episodes of my banging my head against a desk in frustration at people steering us ever-further into a climate crisis whilst trying to distract us from their complete lack of regard for basic kindness and decency. Oh, and there’ll likely be knitting chat.
I’d love you to join me as I navigate life with a wonky body and chaotic brain, and let’s see where this next adventure takes us.
Currently reading: Sitting Pretty, by Rebekah Taussig
Currently knitting: a Strata Beanie
Current TV obsession: Sex Education Season 4 - the best Disability narratives and representation possibly ever.
Currently raging at: The Tory Party Conference, and Rishi Sunak’s transphobia.

Great to see you here on Substack!
Hello I’m here but mostly on bluesky and threads... threads is sorting out accessibility. Substack accessibility is problematic...
